The Importance Of Science Education In School

Science is an organized enterprise which builds and develops knowledge in the form of predictions and testable explanations about the natural world. In the purest sense, science is defined by the definition of sciences formulated by Alfred Nobel (1899) ‘A science is a way of knowledge’. Science is based on the systematic approach and has a firm belief in its objective. It tries to avoid any guesswork and relies on objective empirical evidence to support its claims. With a strong background in philosophy and a solid background in mathematics, science has made great progress in recent times with new technologies and discoveries constantly improving the scope of human knowledge.

There are many ways of teaching science in schools. The objective behind every kind of teaching is to inculcate the scientific methodologies into students’ minds. The methodologies are used for different kinds of sciences like physics, chemistry, biology, zoology etc.

For chemistry and biology, both physics and zoology need some independent knowledge about them. On the other hand, for physics, one needs to have some prior knowledge about biology, chemistry or zoology. This is where science education plays an important role. Proper science education curriculum should incorporate concepts from all these three areas so as to provide a balanced science knowledge.

Science lesson planning is an important part of science education. Students should be involved in the process of selecting their topics and formulating their papers and experiments. For example, students can select a particular branch of zoology and plan a paper on fishes or plants. At the same time, they can select a particular branch of molecular biology and write an experiment on genetic changes.

There are many different ways of introducing science to the students. A good way is to create a scientific project at the end of the year. After a few weeks of weekly science lessons, students will feel more confident in their scientific knowledge and will be able to present their project to their teachers. It is important to introduce the subject in a fun way so that it engages the students and makes them eager to learn.

At the end of the year, proper science education is necessary for students to retain the information learnt and be able to apply it in their lives. It is an essential part of the National Curriculum for teaching the same. Students need both hands-on science experience and a proper understanding of both the physical and chemical laws to develop a strong scientific mindset. The best way to achieve this is by enrolling for science education classes and by undertaking a post-graduate degree in any of the relevant field.
